Reasons why Instagram Won 2016

The leading social media platforms count hundreds of millions of users, some even more than that. When it comes to Instagram, the photo-sharing network reached 700 million monthly active users in 2016, according to Statista.

There are new features being introduced each day, and lately, most of them seem to be utterly useful for Instagramers. Instagram took the 8th place on the list of top 10 apps in 2016. Nonetheless, it showed a very high year-over-year growth, up to 36 percent since 2015. The app has clearly become one of the most popular social networks overall.

New useful features

Instagram really hit it well with new features. Even though they copied Snapchat-like features on some of the updates, nobody can deny their immediate success after implementation.

One that’s very useful, especially for users managing multiple accounts is the feature that allows you to switch between accounts without a need to log out and then log back in. In addition to that, businesses can have their own special account that is different that the common user account. Things like contact button and access to analytics are what every business on Instagram needs. Not to mention demographics and advertising. Social media managers welcome it with hands wide open!

Instagram for Business

At the very moment, around 50% of U.S. brands use Instagram for social media marketing in 2016. However, that’s also about to change, because the platform is growing enormously. That number is expected to rise to 70.7% by 2017 and win over Twitter for the first time.

Furthermore, to get the desired numbers in engagement, brands need to post often and interact with followers on a daily basis. Top brands, obviously need to post more often. They now post 4.9 times per week, which is a growth of more than 50% over 2015.

The Game Changer: Instagram Stories

Instagram gives users a way to build their stories throughout the day with no need to share it directly on the profile. Whether they want to share photos or videos, they will all appear as a slideshow on the top of the news feed. Just like on Snapchat, Stories disappear after 24 hours. Copying like that was really a kick in the face, especially because of the well-known fact that users spend much more time on Instagram after the feature was introduced.

Finally, it is simply incredible how many new features have been added to the platform if we compare the way the app looks now and how it looked like about a year ago.

There are few possible directions for this social network to head to. One of them is, of course, live video. Live video broadcasting has become extremely popular throughout the year, especially among brands and celebrities. The company has announced that it will have its own Live video feature. Stories and Live video broadcasting in combination sound like great tools for further engagement.

Even though brands do not yet use the platform for commercial purposes, that’s about to change as well. With business profiles and other useful features that favor brands, it will be no wonder if it transforms itself into a shopping platform with Shop Now links. Analytics will, naturally, give businesses the advantage of learning more and easier about their audience than ever before.

We’ve mentioned some of the most important reasons that took Instagram to a whole new level. Would you add something else to the list? Tell us about it.
